Before finishing, we look at grading, gutters and leaders, foundation cracks, the sump system, and whether sewage can back up into the house. Many fixes are simple and inexpensive. For serious groundwater problems, we coordinate a waterproofing specialist and then finish the space ourselves.
Flood-ready construction
- Closed-cell foam or rigid insulation that does not hold water
- Moisture-resistant or cement board at the bottom of walls, and PVC base trim
- Waterproof luxury vinyl or tile flooring
- Outlets and equipment raised where practical
- Sump pump with battery backup and a high-water alarm
- Backwater valve on the sewer line where appropriate
